Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas, a veteran of three FIFA World Cups, leads the Liga MX squad set to face MLS stars in the All-Star Game on July 29 in Chicago. Mexican teen sensation Gilberto Mora also highlights the roster.
On Wednesday, Liga MX unveiled a list of 26 players, with two more to be added shortly by Mexican Football Federation Commissioner Mikel Arriola. The match will take place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Team Composition
The Liga MX team, managed by Argentine Antonio Mohamed, boasts standout players including Colombian defender Willer Ditta and Mexicans Israel Reyes, Jesús Gallardo, Érik Lira, Brian Gutiérrez, Mora, and Armando González.
Out of the original 26 players, 14 were selected based on their performances during Liga MX’s Balon de Oro awards, which celebrate the top players from the Apertura and Clausura seasons. The remaining players were chosen by Mohamed and the two yet-to-be-named players by Arriola.
Six of those selected represented Mexico in this summer’s World Cup, namely Mora, Lira, Reyes, Gallardo, Gutiérrez, and González. This encounter will mark the fifth edition of the All-Star Game featuring these two leagues, with MLS holding an advantage with three wins in the previous encounters.
Earlier in July, MLS announced its lineup, which will be led by global superstar Lionel Messi.
