Ancelotti confirms Italy offer, insists he’s committed to Brazil

Carlo Ancelotti has announced that he received an offer to coach the Italian national team but has opted to remain with Brazil. This decision comes after Italy’s struggles to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026, leading to their search for a new head coach.

Commitment to Brazil

Ancelotti, who previously managed AC Milan, stated, “It’s not a contract issue; that’s not the reason” for rejecting the Italy role. He emphasized his gratitude to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the warm welcome he received since taking charge.

He expressed a clear intention to continue his work with Brazil, saying, “I want to stay here… I want to remain in a country that has welcomed me so warmly.” His commitment was made following an invitation from Paolo Maldini, Italy’s technical director and former teammate.

Coaching Developments in Italy

After Ancelotti’s decline of the position, Italy’s Football Federation also approached Pep Guardiola, who declined the offer. Plans to hire Andrea Pirlo fell through due to concerns over a sponsorship deal involving a Russian firm. Ultimately, Roberto Mancini has taken over as Italy’s coach for a second stint.

Ancelotti, under whom Brazil experienced an unexpected early exit from the World Cup, has indicated that he has unfinished business with the national team. He aims to rebuild with a new squad, replacing several older players, including Neymar, who announced his retirement from international play.

“I believe that a new generation must take its place,” Ancelotti remarked, highlighting his focus on creating a successful future for Brazilian football.
