AC Milan name new CEO amid Christian Pulisic transfer approach

Here’s the latest update from the 2026 FIFA World Cup as of 2026-06-26 16:55:00.

AC Milan Appoints Massimo Calvelli as New CEO

In a strategic move to restore a winning culture at AC Milan, the club has announced the appointment of Massimo Calvelli as the new CEO. This decision comes just a day after the club declined an offer from New York City FC for American forward Christian Pulisic.

Calvelli, 51, succeeds Giorgio Furlani, who was dismissed last month by U.S. owners RedBird Capital Partners following what they deemed “an unequivocal failure” of the previous season.

RedBird managing partner Gerry Cardinale stated, “The mandate is clear — we will play to win, instead of playing not to lose — in everything that AC Milan touches, particularly on the field.” He expressed confidence that Calvelli’s appointment would significantly benefit the organization, emphasizing the urgency of returning the club to a winning mindset.

Pulisic’s existing contract with AC Milan runs until June 2027 and includes an option for an additional year. The club is reportedly eager to negotiate a new deal with the U.S. international, but Pulisic may prefer to see signs of stability before making any commitments to extend his contract.

With the current time frame of his contract, Pulisic’s transfer value may drop by next summer, making any potential moves more complex. Calvelli will maintain his role as CEO International at RedBird Development Group while also serving as an Operating Partner at RedBird Capital Partners. Previously, he held the position of ATP CEO from 2020 to 2025.

Cardinale acknowledged Calvelli’s leadership skills since he joined RedBird last year, focusing on establishing a collaborative culture within the organization. “Our model often requires senior leadership to engage directly in our most crucial investments to ensure exceptional execution, especially during periods of change and innovation,” he added.

Last season, AC Milan spent a significant amount of time battling for the Serie A title. Unfortunately, their form faded towards the end, resulting in only two wins from their last eight matches. This disappointing run concluded with a fifth-place finish, causing the team to miss out on Champions League qualification.

As part of the recent restructuring, former coach Massimiliano Allegri was replaced by Rúben Amorim earlier this month. Calvelli expressed a deep commitment to guiding AC Milan through this pivotal phase, both in its football journey and the broader landscape of Italian football. “The mandate is to bring a culture of winning back to AC Milan, and I have a comprehensive understanding of what needs to be fixed and innovated,” he stated.
