Ex-Liverpool boss Arne Slot focused on European job, not Al Ahli – sources

Arne Slot is focused on returning to top-tier club management in Europe, according to sources close to the situation. This comes despite him being the frontrunner to succeed Matthias Jaissle at Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.

The 47-year-old has been unemployed since his dismissal from Liverpool in May, where he spent two seasons at the helm. During his first season, he secured the Premier League title after taking over from Jurgen Klopp. However, he parted ways with the club at the end of the last season, a year before his contract was set to expire, and was subsequently replaced by Andoni Iraola.

Slot has reportedly received interest from clubs in England, Germany, and Italy this summer, following his exit from Liverpool. Additionally, he is being considered in the Netherlands as a potential successor to Ronald Koeman for the national team, especially after the team’s elimination in the round of 32 at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

On Thursday, it was reported that Eddie Howe is expected to vacate his position as Newcastle head coach, concluding a five-year tenure. With Jaissle likely to take over the role at Newcastle, Al Ahli is eager to secure Slot’s services at their club in Jeddah.

Despite the interest from Al Ahli, Slot remains committed to finding a role in the European club circuit as his next career move.
