USL Super League, union agree to CBA key terms

The USL Super League and the USL Players Association reached a tentative agreement on Thursday regarding the key terms of their first collective bargaining agreement (CBA). This pivotal deal marks a significant milestone for the league, which launched in 2024.

Prior to this agreement, players operated without a CBA, leading to inconsistencies across clubs. The Super League has eight teams, having lost Spokane Zephyr FC in May. The new labor agreement also includes two athletic trainers per team and standardized leave protocols for various circumstances.

In terms of player welfare, housing benefits will provide 50% of the fair market value for a two-bedroom apartment, along with comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance coverage. This agreement sets the minimum salary higher than the original CBA of the NWSL, which had a starting salary of $35,000.

Discussions around the CBA involved a labor committee from the United Soccer League and USLPA representatives, including several players, in both in-person and virtual meetings over the last eight months. The USL had recognized the union back in late 2024.
